I had the honor of producing the first audiobook for author, Ken Mosesian. The book is titled,”The Power of Promise.” At the start of recording I definitely had one of those moments where I catch myself mumbling, “I love this job!”
I’ve spent many years in the field as a production sound mixer. Consequently, I sure have gathered up a fair quantity of photos! Since they aren’t doing anyone any good just sitting on my computer, I decided to build a gallery for the website. You can even see that gallery here if you want. It sure was a nice walk down memory lane, so I decided to recall some of my favorite production sound mixer adventures for you here. I hope to do many more posts like this in the days, weeks and months to come.
Working with some fine folks from the BBC London for the next three days as location sound mixer with these cute little buggers who rattle…and bite. I might need some additional production insurance. It was for a series airing on BBC called, “The Human Body: Secrets of Your Life Revealed” and this episode was called “Survive.” It goes into great detail, discussion and examples of how the body summons, reacts to and handles fear.
Over two months rolling sound in the forests and beaches of the Oregon coast? Yes please! I was happy and proud to head up (and be the sole member of) the Production Sound Team for The Watchman’s Canoe!
The Watchman’s Canoe is a sweet film with a great message of inclusion. Jett is a girl of mixed Caucasian and Indigenous descent and struggles with these two labels. She is harassed by the boys at her new school. Later, a visit from a distant cousin and meeting a local “watchman” sets Jett off on a spiritual journey into the world of Native American story and beliefs.
Finally, production has begun for Women in Prison, Season 2. Teams came in from RawTV in London to work with Randy Murray Productions who hired the crew including me, a Sound Mixer in Phoenix. Yahoo for local work mixing sound for television.
Premiering Thursday, June 11, “Women in Prison” airs on Investigation Discovery, America’s leading mystery and suspense network. It is a new hour-long, three-episode docu-series.
I went to Hawaii for fun. Later I found a 4-day gig at the Hilton Waikoloa that paid for the whole trip with money left to bring home. The trip lasted over a month. Why do I not do this more?!!??!
This really is one of my most favorite productions to-date and possibly of all time. There is something fascinating about jamming a cast & crew of ~20 in a single location for 8 days & nights of 12-16 hour days on a passion project. Many in the business know I am famous for saying the following and this project was no exception: “Handshakes on the first day; Hugs & tears on the last.”
